An all female police unit who wore tight fitting
uniforms and high heels has been disbanded
because it was damaging the image of the police
force. The group of 20 officers, chosen for their
beauty and great physique was set up by retired
general Rolando Eugenio Hidalgo Eddy who
thought it would be a good idea to have a
brigade to work at social events in the city of
Aguascalientes in Central Mexico.
They became popular in 2013 after President
Enrique Pena Nieto was snapped posing
alongside the female officers in their skimpy
uniforms, sunglasses and 4.7inch heel boots.
But the new secretary of public security for the
state, Eduardo Bahena Pineda, was not
impressed with the unit and thought it
demeaned the force's public image. 13 of the
female officers have left the force while the
remaining seven women are dressed in normal
uniforms.
Alma Rosa, a female officer in the reformed unit,
described the change as positive.
She said:
"People would come to us, but they
seemed puzzled as we did not look like
real policewomen. "Now that I'm an
operative officer and I wear police shoes I
feel much prouder. I was proud before,
but now I feel prouder."
