The second black woman "Raissa Santana" to win Miss Brazil in 61 years


The Brazil has just crowned its first black Miss Brazil in 30 years. Raissa Santana, 21, comes after Deise Nunes, who was elected back in 1986.The finale of the Miss Brazil 2016 pageant took place in Maringa, Brazil this week end, and the big winner Raissa Santana can be doubly delighted. Indeed, not only is she considered as one of the most beautiful woman in Brazil, she is also the second black woman in 61 years of competition to get the prestigious title, as reported by the site plus55.com. And yes, this is kind of odd as 54% of the Brazilian population considers themselves to be black or multiracial. This year, the the number of black contestants in the competition with black women being 6 out of 27 contestants.

Raissa Santana clearly told the judges that she wanted to “break the 30 year fast” since Deise Nunes won in 1986.

After the competition, Santana commented : “I’m very emotional. This here is a mixture of great emotions. I didn’t expect to win this title, but I am very happy to have won this title and to represent black beauty and encourage girls who have the dream of having something, to conquer, to be a model, to be a Miss…now I want to encourage these girls and show them that they can.”The new Miss Brazil will represent her country during the 2016 Miss Universe pageant that will take place in the Philippines next January.
