Actor and comedian Aziz Ansari is the latest celebrity to be accused of sexual assault (read here). But a lot of people, having read the story shared by Ansari's accuser, do not agree what went down between him and the anonymous 23-year-old photographer can be classified as sexual assault.
Twitter users are divided over the sexual assault allegations. But most people seem to agree that the 23-year-old photographer, known simply as Grace, was not sexually abused, and her claim of sexual assault trivializes the #MeToo movement and will make it hard to believe real victims.
Twitter users say it was a case of a date gone wrong, not sexual assault, and there's no way Ansari could have read her mind to know she was not feeling it because she did not speak up, instead she went ahead to perform oral sex on him only to inform him a day later that she felt violated.
However, some Twitter users said consent doesn't necessarily have to be verbal and Ansari should have read the body language of his sexual partner to know she was not a willing participant. Several Twitter users objected to this though and gave their reasons.
Ever since the sexual allegation wave hit and alleged victims began exposing their alleged abusers, no other incident of sexual misconduct have left people as divided as the one involving Ansari. Also, no other alleged abuser has received as much public support as Ansari has.
