FG Lifts Ban On ‘Sugar Rush’, Movie Back In Cinemas

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has lifted the ban placed on “Sugar Rush” screening in Nigerian cinemas.

NFVCB previously stated the reason the movie was banned was that the approval it granted it was temporary and was reviewing if it worths a permanent approval.

In a press statement, the board said the movie (Sugar Rush) “has been classified and granted final approval for public screening.”

The executive director/CEO of the board, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas said; “The past week has been eventful for us as an organization with diverse speculations in the media on the perceived ban of Sugar Rush movie at the cinemas while we were still doing our due diligence on the movie for final approval.

“We are pleased to inform the general public that the movie has been classified and granted final approval for public screening.”

Thomas also stated that the unprecedented successes of the creative industry was responsible for the nation’s award as the Emerging Film Market at the Official Convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), CinemaCon, Las Vegas, USA.

He also noted that the board improved capacity of its staff and this led to the confiscation and recent destruction of over 500million naira worth of bootlegged and pirated video works.

Temi Otedola, a professional fashion-designer and daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, has revealed she that acting is her first love. She made this known while announcing her role in Kunle Afolayan’s movie, ‘Citation’.

I don’t think I would have entered into this arena of creative work, but this script is perfect for me. I’m so happy that I waited for this time. With Kunle Afolayan’s film, it means I am starting at the top. So, I’m just so humbled to have been given this opportunity.

The message is to tell women that we are hearing their stories, that we believe them. Women are being harassed in several ways.” On leaving fashion for acting, Temi said,“both of them are still very close to my heart; I will always be designing and doing fashion, but also, this is my one true love. So I’ll continue acting.”

 Produced and directed by Kunle Afolayan, ‘Citation’ tells the story of a 23-year-old postgraduate student, Moremi, who has to devise a way to fend off the sexual advances of her lecturer. Temi will play the role of Moremi, acting alongside veteran Nollywood actors like Sadiq Daba, Joke Silva, Ini Edo as well as Yomi Fash-Lanso. 

Other notable actors in the movie include Gabriel Afolayan, Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang, Haitian-French actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, Ivorian theatre actor Bienvenu Neba, among others.

Recent reports on the net worth of Nigerian female music artistes shows that the likes of Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Omawunmi and the rest have done remarkably well in their music career just like the male musicians.

Pop singer, Tiwa Savage, is reported to be worth around $4.85 million and is believed to be the richest female artiste in the country.

The singer wowed the music space with her first hit single ‘Kele Kele Love’ in 2010. Since then, Tiwa has not gone cold one bit.

Popular actor, Dwayne Johnson popularly known as ‘The Rock’ has lost his father, Rocky Johnson.

According to TMZ, Rocky Johnson passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, in Tampa Bay at the age of 75.Johnson, born Wayde Douglas Bowles, began his career in the 1960s and after a period in the World Wide Wrestling Federation, he became a top contender in the National Wrestling Alliance.

There, he won numerous regional championships and tag-team championship.

WWE made a statement via their website that reads:-

“WWE is saddened to learn that Rocky ‘Soul Man’ Johnson, a WWE Hall of Famer, former World Tag Team Champion, and father of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, has passed away at age 75.”
